Former Fire Chief, 'Founding Farmer' From Hudson Valley Dies: Served For Over 50 Years
The Orange County community is mourning the loss of a longtime firefighter, past fire chief, and lifelong farmer whose decades of service left a lasting mark on the town he called home.
Philip “Philly” J. Hoeffner, a past chief and 52-year member of the Montgomery Fire Department, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 13, surrounded by loved ones, following a five-year battle with leukemia, according to his obituary. He was 71 years old.
Hoeffner was a lifetime resident of Montgomery and a graduate of Valley Central High School, Class of 1972, his obituary said.

Carl “Rick” Vreeland, the longtime owner of Freedom Hill Farm in Otisville, died on Friday, Nov. 28, at the age of 72, according to his obituary.
