A Jersey City man was arrested after police say he shoplifted $5,600 in items from Marshalls and ran from officers in Edgewater, authorities announced.
Edgewater police received a report of a shoplifting in progress at the Marshalls store inside Edgewater Commons on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 4:54 p.m., according to Chief Donald Martin.

Nehemiah Byers, of Amityville, was taken into custody Tuesday night, Jan. 27, after allegedly robbing businesses in Copiague, Amityville, and Farmingdale while displaying what appeared to be a handgun, Suffolk County Police said.

At about 12:30 p.m., Mahwah Police Officer Gino Perrelli was conducting a motor vehicle stop on Route 287 north when an unrelated vehicle pulled onto the shoulder ahead of the stop, Capt. A Farmingville man was arrested after crashing a stolen sports car on the Long Island Expressway and fleeing the scene, police said.
