Woman Charged With DWI After NJ Transit Train Hits Empty Vehicle In Central Jersey
A Long Branch woman was accused of driving while intoxicated after an empty vehicle was struck by a New Jersey Transit train, authorities said. North Jersey Coast Line train No. 4384 hit an unoccupied vehicle in Long Branch at around 8:59 p.m. on Monday, June 3, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. The vehicle was struck at the Cedar Avenue crossing between the Long Branch and Elberon stations. Police in New York say a Connecticut man intentionally parked his Chevy Equinox on train tracks in the path of a CSX train and then ran away only to be caught. The Hudson Valley incident occurred in Ulster County around 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, south of the Esopus Avenue railroad crossing in the town of Espous. According to Capt. A rolling dumpster fire of sorts was doused overnight in Maywood after a blaze ignited in a railroad car carrying construction debris and trash. Maywood Avenue was closed from Central to East Hunter Avenue after the train came to a stop, blocking the crossing, just after midnight Friday, March 17.
